DVLA number plates most numerous

They say that approximatelty one million cars in  the united kingdom now display personalised registration number. The vast majority of these are DVLA number plates. Before the agency entered the market the only private registrations available were cherished numbers i.e. registrations which had been taken off old vehicles and transferred onto the buyers car. When DVLA number plates became available they were previously unissued numbers so they were easy to come by and therefore cheap. Every penny they were sold for was profit as they were just printed up from the vast well of unissued registration numbers that had never been used.
