The Universal Health Care Model For The United States
The United States has often cast an eye in the direction of the British National Health Service and US presidents from Calvin Coolidge to Bill Clinton have tried without success to introduce a system of universal coverage. Doctors, not surprisingly, have of course fought against such a move as it would necessarily introduce a new level of bureaucracy into the health care system and also threaten their independence and lower their income. Things are however beginning to change and a growing number of doctors are now becoming dissatisfied with a disjointed system which is making it increasingly hard for them to do their jobs and is, at the same time, denying health care to millions of Americans. Perhaps it will not be too long before a US President is able to introduce universal health care and at last provide low cost medical insurance for all.
