Glad I know how to read guitar tabs

I have been playing the guitar for close to four years and taught myself by figuring out how to read guitar tabs. I could play a bit by ear beforehand, but didn’t really start making progress until I learned this method of musical notation. I have often been chastised by older musicians for not knowing how to read sheet music. Personally, I haven’t found any reason to learn this yet. There is a wealth of information available to young guitarists on how to play without needing to acquire this skill. Someday I may learn how to read sheet music but for now I’m doing quite well with tablature.
