The banning of fruit machines from the states

In 1909, San Francisco prohibited fruit & slot machines. Nevada followed suit a year later. Then in 1911, California outlawed slot machines statewide. During that period, a number of politicians made a big show of being photographed destroying fruit machines. However, Nevada re-introduced gambling in the 1930s, and the “one-armed bandit” became a mainstay of the Las Vegas gambling haunts. The one arm bandit fruit machine is still in use today – however – recent technological advancements have meant that the companies have more control of the odds electronically and some maintain that the randomness is calculated these days.
