Community responsibility
Much of our children’s educational opportunity today comes into our homes through the internet. Businesses that do not have broadband access can not talk to their customers in a timely manner and are not competitive. Communities are beginning to realize that if they are not served by cable or DSL their citizens are at a disadvantage. To overcome this they have begun to install community wide Wi-Fi networks. An example of this is New Orleans after Katrina. While this technology is working for populated area, the rural areas still remain without adequate coverage in many of the areas than could profit by it.
