WOW Game Clothing For Little Ones

I don’t know all of the reasons for it, but I wonder if we are not losing a sense of perspective about the difference between “wants” and “needs”. This became apparent to me as I was learning about a video/on-line experience called World of Warcraft.
A neighborhood friend brought over a baby tee-shirt that she had purchased for her 12 month old. It said: Future Horde Toddler ! I had no doubt that this purchase met the mom’s needs, and not that of her one-year-old !
Last week she showed me the WOW leveling guide that she had purchased. “It will get me past the tough parts and save time”! Time for what ??? Time away from her child ? Time away from her family ? Time away from her own boredom ? I don’t get it !
We Americans have way too much time on our hands. I find it hard not to be judgemental at times like this. How does one teach perspective and a sense of reasonableness? I am open to suggestions if you have any.
